Creating alert rules

An alert rule watches a query over a time window and fires when it crosses a threshold.

Rule anatomy

Every rule has a query, a threshold, an evaluation window, and one or more notification channels.

Thresholds and windows

Shorter windows react faster but are more sensitive to brief spikes. Most teams start with a 5 to 10 minute window and adjust from there.
